Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it averaged 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded 15.71 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The total World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
